Trial in the case of activist who painted a monument to Heydar Aliyev
On Thursday the Baku Serious Rimes Court y continued the trial in the case of activists of NIDA movement Bayram Mammadov, accused of drug trafficking. Mammadov denied the accusation and said that he was arrested for writing slogans on the monument to Heydar Aliyev. At the beginning of the meeting in the courtroom the lights went out. Mammadov therefore threw replica: "It's symbolic because the Azerbaijani youth is in darkness." He asked for the word, but Judge Eynulla Valiyev denied him.
Further, as a witness was heard an employee of the 12th Sabunchu police department Yusif Aleskerov. He argued that while the arrest drugs were found with Mammadov, who he said that part of the drug was at his home.
Mammadov said that Alasgarov was not among those who detained him, but he was one of 7-8 people who beat Mammadov in the cabinet of the chief.
Lawyer Elchin Sadigov petitioned for re-examination the head of the operative group, a member of the Baku Police Shirali Babayev and witnesses in this case - Nizami Guliyev and Intigam Kerimov.
The lawyer explained it by the fact that at the last trial the witnesses claimed that for the first time they were brought to such a case. However, the lawyer submitted an extract from the indictments, when the same witnesses - Guliyev and Karimov repeatedly were witnesses in the operational activities carried out under the supervision of Babayev. This refutes the assertion of the investigation that witnesses were random people. However, the judge did not grant the request.
Since a the absence of another witness, it was announced about the completion of the trial. The next trial is scheduled for December 2.
Giyas Ibrahimov and Bayram Mammadov were arrested on May 10 on charges of drug trafficking. However, the true reason for their arrest became graffiti on the monument to Heydar Aliyev: "Congratulations on the slaves!" and "Down with the system!".
The organization Amnesty International recognized the activists as "prisoners of conscience". On October 25 Ibrahimov was sentenced to 10 years in prison.-36C06-
