Trial over the accused of planning terrorist attacks during "Eurovision"
Baku Court of Grave Crimes started consideration in the case of a group of people accused of planning attacks in Azerbaijan during "Eurovision 2012" song contest. These people were brought to justice: Rajab Abbasov, Afig Allahverdiyev, Kamal Yagubov and Rashad Shahbazov.
They were charged with treason, the creation of an organized criminal terrorist group, smuggling, illegal weapons possession. According to unofficial sources, the accused pleaded guilty in part. The next trial is scheduled for November 19.
In the end of May, the Ministry of National Security of Azerbaijan stated the exposure of the armed group, which planned attack on President Ilham Aliyev and the attacks during the contest "Eurovision".
It was reported that 40 people were arrested, and their leader Vugar Padarov was killed during a special operation in Ganja, and a group member Timur Hasanov was killed in Baku.
According to investigators, the group planned attempt on Aliyev during his visit to the north-western region in early April. In addition, members of the criminal group prepared bombing and armed attacks in hotels "Hilton Baku" and "Marriot Hotel Absheron", as well as in the complex "Baku Crystal Hall", where concerts of "Eurovision" were held.
Trial over the accused in the case are held behind closed doors by small groups. Earlier another trial in the case of another group of defendants in Sheki region began.–06D--

During search and operational activities, on January 30 at 11:20, 16.4 kg of drugs were discovered and seized in the area of the "Geytapa" border post, located on the Iran-Azerbaijan border. According to the Azerbaijan Border Service, this prevented an attempt to smuggle into Azerbaijan 11.3 kg of marijuana, 5.1 kg of opium, and 1,990 methadone M-40 pills from Iran.
