Two of the country`s citizens arrested for espionage
On 20 February the State Security Service (SSS) of Azerbaijan arrested two citizens - Elshan Amiri and Elchin Babayev on charges of treason and espionage. According to the report of State Security Council, from January 2016 the activities of these individuals was brought under operational control. These persons had a written commitment on cooperation with foreign intelligence services and performed tasks of these bodies: collected information non secret units of law enforcement agencies, military units of the Ministry of Defense, their combat capabilities, as well as information on the strategically important objects of national importance. After the detention of Amiri and Babayev, with the participation of Customs and the State Border Service, a lawsuit was filed against them under the Article 274 of the Criminal Code (high treason), according to the SSS, which does not disclose to which country spied the said persons. -02D-
