Verdict against the journalist Elchin Hasanov will be held July 27
On Monday, the Baku Court of Appeal (BCA), chaired by Aflatun Gasimov held a hearing in the case of journalist Elchin Hasanov, who was sentenced to a year of hard labor on charges of hooliganism. The prosecutor's office appealed the verdict and demanded to reclassify the charge Article 221.1 (hooliganism) to 221.3 (hooliganism with the use of cold weapons) of the Criminal Code, and to toughen punishment to 3.5 years in prison. The lawyer asked for acquittal of the journalist. At this meeting, Hasanov declared his innocence.
The cause of the incident between him and the head of the agency "Asia" Jafar Jafarov became offensive publications against Hasanov. A journalist once said he did not beat Jafarov, and the latter himself confirmed it in the court of first instance.
Hasanov is the deputy editor of the Sumgait Internet newspaper "Yukselish Namine» (yukselis.info). In addition, he is a member of the Supreme Majlis of PFPA and deputy head of the NGO "Legal Education of Sumgait Youth". The beginning of a lawsuit against Hasanov coincided with his publications on the topic on corruption and embezzlement in the army.—06С-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
