Wife of Tortured Officer Sues Defense Ministry
Baku / 11.06.19 / Turan: The spouse of Sakhavat Binnatov, one of the officers tortured on charges of treason in 2017, has sued the Ministry of Defense. According to Criminal.az, Khavar Hagverdiyeva demands compensation in the amount of 200,000 manat, noting that her husband was found not guilty.
According to her, her husband was arrested in May 2017 and tortured to death. "The responsibility for his death lies with the Ministry of Defense. We lost the breadwinner, and I and my two daughters were in a helpless state. The children still have not recovered from stress," said Hagverdiyeva.
The day before, Baku Administrative and Economic Court Number 1 held a preparatory meeting on the claim. As explained by the lawyer Vagif Aliyev, there is a court decision, where it is said that Binnatov was "killed by mistake."
Recall that in May 2017, a large group of military and civilians accused of treason and cooperation with Armenian intelligence were arrested in the Terter case. Most of them were later found not guilty. Several people died during the investigation, while several others still remain under arrest.
The authorities have not disclosed the details of this case. -06D--
