Work at the Seyudlu field can be resumed in stages after the modernization of production
Baku/26.09.23 /Turan: Studies have revealed an excess of the norm of harmful substances in the water tanks in Gedabey, created for the discharge of processing waste from the gold deposit, stated at the meeting of the commission under the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov to investigate the situation in the village of Seyudlu of the Gedabey region on September 26. However, it was found that "this is not a source of danger to the environment and human health," the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers said.
During the monitoring of groundwater in the industrial and residential areas, a small cyanide content was recorded in samples from three wells on the territory of the plant. Although these indicators are many times lower than the maximum permissible, this fact can be considered as a potential risk to the environment, the commission concluded.
During the meeting, it was decided that the gradual resumption of the plant's activities can be ensured after the development and presentation of the schedule for the reconstruction and modernization and its coordination with the relevant government agencies.
On June 20, the residents of the village of Seyudlu held a protest action, stating that the environment was polluted by a nearby gold mining enterprise. The police violently dispersed the protest, detaining the most active participants. Later, the authorities recognized problems with the activities of the Anglo Asian Mining company operating the mine and created a government commission to investigate. ---03B06---
