Workers on strike are promised that they will be paid
The leadership of the company Trans-Beton promised the workers who blocked the road in Zagatala region will be their salaries for three months. The outraged workers blocked the road on February 25 Gakh-Zagatala, demanding their money.
This is not the first action of the discontented workers. Restoration works in the area affected by the earthquake, is controlled by the Ministry of Emergencies Situations, which hires contractors without a tender.
The monitoring conducted by the staff of civil society "Kura" revealed that the workers do
not sign contracts, wages are given semi-legally, safety rules are violated, there is not transparency of the use of funds.
Earthquake in Zagatala region on May 7, 2011, affected also the Gakh and Sheki regions.
In June, 320 million manta were allocated to build 3,500 houses, 35 schools, and to repair thousands of homes. However, these promises have not been fulfilled. On January 7 the Emergencies Minister, Kamaladdin Heydarov, said that 2984 houses, 22 schools wee built; however, the monitoring conducted by the staff "Kura" showed that about 30% of the houses have not yet been built yet.
About 2.5 thousand families are expecting for assistance in the neighboring Balakan region, where the same magnitude earthquake took place in September, last year.-0-
