Zamin Salayv continues his hunger strike in the pre-trial detention center for the 72nd day
Baku/19.04.23/Turan: Zamin Salayev, a member of the Popular Front Party, continues his hunger strike in jail for the 72nd day, lawyer Fahraddin Mehdiyev, who visited him today, told Turan. "His health remains very serious, his legs are failing, he has lost 38 kg. and is very sluggish," he said. He suffers from the severe pain in the stomach and in the heart area. Finally, on April 18, he was given an electrocardiogram and blood samples were taken for analysis. But there are no results yet," the lawyer said.
According to him, on April 18, Salayev was also visited by representatives of the Baku office of the International Committee of the Red Cross. After that, Salayev was transferred to a separate cell and medical supervision was established for him.
The lawyer, on behalf of his associates and on his own behalf, asked Salayev to stop the hunger strike. "However, he said that he had been arrested unreasonably and would be on a hunger strike "until the end," Mehdiyev said.
The lawyer also announced the completion of the preliminary investigation, but it is not yet known when the court will onsider the case.
* On February 8, the Garadagh District Court of Baku arrested Salayev for three months. A criminal case has been initiated against him under Article 221.3 of the Criminal Code. The activist faces up to 5 years in prison.
Zamin Salayev said in court that the accusation made against him is false and he is being punished for criticizing the authorities in social networks. Human rights activists recognized Salayev as a political prisoner. –03B06--
