Intigam Aliyev Completes Novel The Scoundrels Death
Baku/29.06.19/Turan: A novel called "The Scoundrel"s Death" is "not about scoundrels, but the system that raises them".
Well-known human rights defender, former political prisoner Intigam Aliyev has made his second novel available for readers.
The novel titled "The Scoundrel"s Death" is about degradation and dissociation that take place in society under authoritarian rule. In a country where the rulers are ready to try all possible means to eliminate opponents, the system is constantly producing scoundrels; everyone may fall into this mill and fail to survive. Every single person is a potential victim in an environment in which everything can be bought and sold, values are turned upside down, and rules of the game are tough. This is the reason why it indicated on the cover of the book that "it is not about scoundrels, but the system that raises them".
The main hero of the novel is a lawyer who is courageous enough to defend journalists and activists that are targeted by the government. He often speaks out against the authorities. Waves of notices, serious threats, and even an assassination attempt do not stop him. As he turns to be a headache for the rulers, the issue of silencing him is brought to high-level agenda and he gets imprisoned on false accusations. Then his prominence goes beyond the borders of his country - international campaigns start in his support, he receives reputable awards, turns to be a symbol of struggle. Eventually, after 5 years of prison term, once he gets free, he returns back to his fight with greater energy. In a different front, though - against people that he stood together, turning his back to those who supported him, to those with whom shared common values in past.
The novel is dedicated to the memory of Elton Guliyev, a well-known Azerbaijani lawyer, who lost his life in 2015 after suffering from a heavy disease.
The book can be found in the electronic version for the time being; a print version is also to be published.
This is the second novel by Intigam Aliyev. His first book is Meydan. -06D-
