Dismissed Military Could Threaten Stability - Military Expert
Baku/17.03.21/Turan: The release of the Turan news agency's program Difficult Question dated March 17, 2021 was dedicated to the arrest of General Rovshan Akperov. The guest of the program, a military expert, head of the Khazar Institute of Military Research, Jasur Sumerinli, said that the arrest of the reserve lieutenant general, national hero R. Akperov, 19 years after the crime, became a model of lawlessness. “If the law worked, it would be punished on time,” he said.
At the very beginning, the Ukrainian prosecutor's office stated that the suspect was hiding in Azerbaijan.
According to Sumerinli, R. Akperov was an ambitious person and an alternative to Defense Minister Safar Abiyev.
R. Akperov belonged to the group of the former chief of the General Staff Najmeddin Sadykov. The situation in the Ministry of Defense created conditions for corruption, violations of the rights of servicemen, lawlessness and the death of soldiers in peacetime.
The army leadership, within which there are contradictions, is dangerous for the authorities and can become a source of political destabilization. After the appointment of Zakir Hasanov as Minister of Defense, the situation began to gradually normalize.
As for the dismissal of some generals after the Second Karabakh War, the authorities proceeded from the idea of eliminating those who could destabilize the situation by their actions. Therefore, they were all fired at the same time.
Sumerinli believes that the elimination of military of various ranks will continue for some time.
It is time for Azerbaijan to carry out military reforms, the country must determine the direction in this area. The choice must be made between Russia and NATO
Ilham Aliyev recently announced that the Turkish model could be applied to the Azerbaijani army. The Turkish military model stands for NATO standards.
