"Terter case": allegations, torture, truth ...
Baku/09.04.21/Turan: After the April 2016 battles in Azerbaijan, the military began to be massively involved in the investigation, which was called the "Terter case".
Then the Prosecutor General's Office, the State Security Service, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in a joint statement, motivated the arrests by the involvement of the suspects in espionage for Armenia.
The public learned about the details of this case about the mass torture of detainees in May-June 2017 only in 2019.
According to human rights activists, more than 100 soldiers and officers were tortured, 25 were sentenced to long terms of imprisonment, at least nine people died from torture.
According to the witness testimony, the accused were subjected to severe torture on the materials of the forensic examination.
On April 9, security expert Arastun Orujlu spoke about the details of the "Terter case" in an interview with the "Difficult Question" program of Turan agency.
In his opinion, the purpose of attracting public attention to this case is to return an honest name to a group of military men, unreasonably convicted on charges of espionage, to punish those who committed this arbitrariness.
According to him, the investigation was carried out in an atmosphere of secrecy and there was very little information about the number of military personnel, their treatment, deaths from torture. It was about attracting hundreds of soldiers and officers to the investigation.
Orujlu believes that this case had a far-reaching goal of undermining the people's confidence in the army and this is not an ordinary criminal case.
He believes that the "enemy hand" was at work in this.
According to Orujlu, those who sanctioned these repressions are afraid not so much of their punishment by the state leadership as of wide publicity of the case.
Therefore, publications about these events in the media run into discontent.
However, there is no other way out as public information, exposure and condemnation of these crimes.
“If the investigation of this case starts at the level of the state leadership, I am ready to provide support. For what I say is not even 20 percent of what I know, ”Orujlu said.
He considers it an important intervention at the level of the country's leadership, since the number of those who committed lawlessness is very large and there are such high-ranking figures among them that it is difficult for any government agency to bring them to justice, even if they really want to.
The families of some of the servicemen who died during the investigation were issued documents stating that their "guilt was not proven." However, this is by no means a rehabilitation of the tortured.
Orujlu considers the "Terter case" a systemic hostile action against the army, in which the special services of the Russian Federation are involved.
The participants in these crimes did not serve the interests of Azerbaijan.
Orujlu believes that the "Tertrr case" must be re-investigated and all the guilty must be punished. –05B06-
