Alcohol Disappeared in Baku Stores
Alcohol has disappeared in the trading network of the capital of Azerbaijan. This is due to new government rules on the sale of alcoholic beverages only via credit card.
Recall that in early December last year, the President approved the Rules of the sale of excise goods in the territory of Azerbaijan – this regards alcoholic beverages, including beer, and tobacco products. From now on, the payment for the products in wholesale or retail by cash is prohibited. That is, from 1 January alcohol must be paid by payment cards.
However, 10 days after the entry of these regulations into force, alcohol has disappeared from the shops. It cannot be bought on payment cards either.
Asked by Turan, the staff of a major supermarket said that they were ordered to remove alcohol from the shelves. When the trade will resume and on what terms, they do not know.
The same was said by another store owner, saying that he knew nothing and did not understand the new procedure for the sale of alcohol. "In the beginning they said that alcohol for up to 50 manats can be sold for cash, and now they tell us not to sell, but wait and wait. So we do not know why," he said. -02B-
