Paralysis of Foreign Exchange Market
The sale of dollars and euros in Baku has virtually halted. On Monday, as at the weekend, currency exchange points remained closed.
The banks do not sell the currency, although formally on the label they specify the official rate of the Central Bank.
You cannot remove the foreign currency also by cards. Even after the establishment of the 4% commission for removal of currency by cards at ATMs, it cannot be removed in dollars or euros. In fact, the currency market is paralyzed.
The currency hype continues to push up the price of food and cigarettes. Importers, seeking to insure risks, raise prices.
The situation has not improved even after yesterday's orders of the President and the Prosecutor's Office to resolutely combat currency speculation and artificially high prices.
Meanwhile, the "black market" revived. There the dollar is sold for AZN 1.9-2 and euros – for 2.1 manats.
According to the official exchange rate set by the Central Bank on January 8, 1 US dollar equals to 1.5642 AZN and 1 EUR – to 1.7009 manats. These courses are officially announced also for January 11. -06D-
