Antimonopoly Service on Prices of Eggs
The State Service for Antimonopoly Policy and Consumer Protection (SSAMP) under the Ministry of Economy published the results of the research of the prices of eggs in the consumer market. It was the first message by the Service on market prices in many months.
The report noted that in comparison with the beginning of January the price of eggs dropped by 25% and is now 12-15 gepiks an egg.
It is noteworthy that the prices of many food products in Azerbaijan are growing incessantly. However SSAMP even once in the last 12 months has not acted on this issue, including on the artificial increase in prices, for example, of cigarettes.
A few years ago, President Ilham Aliyev criticized SSAMP strictly about the egg price increase, threatening at the same time the heads of poultry with criminal penalties. Several people were prosecuted. Since then, the sale of eggs has been a subject of the Ministry of Economy Studies.
The Head of the Republican Poultry Society Aydin Veliyev told Turan the decline in the prices for eggs is due to oversaturation of the market. Today, even the export is possible.
A total of 1.6 billion eggs were produced in 2016, which was by 3.7% more than in 2015. The average monthly production reached 133 million eggs. It is unclear how the production increased in January and February, due to lack of the data. --08D-

Azerbaijan recorded a 2% increase in wheat imports from January to November 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, underscoring its continued reliance on external sources to meet domestic demand.
