Infant and maternal mortality rates in Azerbaijan declined in terms of increase in fertility
The mortality rate of children in infancy in Azerbaijan in 2012 was reduced from 11 (in 2011) to 10.8 per 1000 live births. In this case, the birth rate in the country in 2012, up 15%.
Mortality among children in infancy (up to 1 year) and stillbirths, as well as maternal mortality was discussed last week at the Ministry of Health. It was noted that the level of service quality in hospitals has increased, which is the reason for the decline in mortality. In 2012, the mortality rate among mothers was 14.9% to 100 000 live-born children. In 2011, 27 mothers died in childbirth, and the average mortality rate among them was 15.3 to 100 thousand.
The country has continued to record cases of home births. In 2007, the figure was 3.5% of the newborns and in 2012 this figure dropped three times.
It should be emphasized that the physical mortality rate is still high. Thus, according to the State Statistics Committee, which received the data from the Ministry of Health, in 2000, 1,896 babies did not live for 1 year, in 2005 this figure fell to 1,580, and in 2007-2009 it varied between 1,756-1,731 children. Since 2010, the number of deaths of children began to grow again: in 2010 it was 1,843 and in 2,011 – 1,903 babies. - 08B-

Azerbaijan's financial standing continues to strengthen as the country's foreign currency reserves have surged to $71 billion as of January 1, 2025, according to the Ministry of Finance. This figure, which includes reserves held by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) and the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), far exceeds the nation's external debt, which stands at a fraction of its reserves, specifically nearly 14 times less. This robust reserve position reflects Azerbaijan's fiscal stability and the government’s strategic economic management.
