Internet Restrictions Approved in Parliament under Pretext of Children’s Protection from Bad Influence
At plenary session of Milli Majlis on April 29 under the pretext of protecting children from the pernicious influence of external factors the MPs approved Internet restrictions. This was reflected in the discussions of draft amendments to the laws On Children's Rights, On Mass Media and On Telecommunications.
Speaking on the first document, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Family, Women and Children Aliya Nakhchivanli reported on the urgent need "to prevent the use of negative information by children."
"We propose to add a paragraph on the protection of children from information that could harm children's health and development to the article 15 of the law, which allows children to seek, receive and impart information using IT-technologies, which should be reflected in the relevant legislation," said the MP.
In her opinion, the amendments to the law provide for ensuring the safe use of information resources on the basis of the subscriber application, which allows state agencies to require the adoption of measures to protect from harmful information.
The Milli Majlis supported the speaker by a majority vote, offering a separate bill to filter information coming to children, and to identify the criteria that will let determine the risk of information. According to Nakhchivanli, such a bill is being developed and is called "On the protection of children from harmful information." --17D-

Azerbaijan's financial standing continues to strengthen as the country's foreign currency reserves have surged to $71 billion as of January 1, 2025, according to the Ministry of Finance. This figure, which includes reserves held by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) and the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), far exceeds the nation's external debt, which stands at a fraction of its reserves, specifically nearly 14 times less.
