Ankara does not believe in the withdrawal of Russian troops from Syria
Ankara / 12.12.17 / Turan: Turkey doubts Moscow's intentions to withdraw military contingent from Syria, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said.
"Russia already has two bases in Syria, and servicemen stationed in different regions of this country. Thre are also US bases in the region. So the statements about the withdrawal of the Russian contingent from Syria do not sound quite realistic, "Turkish television channel NTV cites Cavusoglu.
The minister recalled that Russia had previously withdrawn its servicemen from Syria, and then reintroduced them, increasing their numbers.
"In any event, considerable progress has been made in the fight against terrorists of LIH in Syria. The regime of Bashar Assad, Iran and Russia have focused on other issues," Cavusoglu said.
According to him, at the moment the main threat in Syria comes from the terrorist organization PYD (Syrian branch PKK).
Commenting on the meeting of the Russian president with the Syrian regime's head Bashar Assad in Syria, the minister stressed that Turkey's position with regard to the Assad regime has not changed. -02D-
