Azerbaijani President meets Iranian counterpart
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today met visiting Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
President Ilham Aliyev welcomed Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
During the meeting, they stressed the importance of the 12th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
They expressed confidence that this event would further contribute to expanding cooperation among the regional countries.
The Heads of State praised development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Iran in the fields of politics, economy and culture.
They noted there was a good potential for enhancing bilateral ties in various fields, including economy, trade, energy and transport.
The presidents said close cultural and historical contacts between the two countries` peoples created good basis for developing bilateral relationship even more.
They noted development of relations between Azerbaijan and Iran would contribute to strengthening regional cooperation.
The Heads of State underlined the importance of high-level reciprocal visits for development of bilateral cooperation.
The presidents expressed confidence bilateral relations between the two countries would continue to develop.
They also discussed a number of issues of mutual interest.
