Confrontation between Yerevan and Karabakh Deepens
Baku / 11.06.19 / Turan: On the evening of June 10, Armenian media reported on the resignation of Karabakh Security Council Secretary Vitaly Balasanyan.
The reason for the resignation was sharp criticism from Balasanyan against the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his team and disagreement with his policy.
According to sources in Karabakh, Nikol Pashinyan demanded that the leader of the Karabakh separatists Bako Sahakyan dismiss Balasanyan. A few days ago, Balasanyan was detained by police in Yerevan and a search was conducted in his car, which was a demonstration of the attitude of the Armenian leadership towards Balasanyan.
At the same time, sources in Karabakh claim that Balasanyan will run for "Karabakh"s presidential election" in 2020.
In addition to Balasanyan, another high-ranking official in the leadership of Karabakh, Artur Aghabekyan, was dismissed today. He served as adviser to the "president", and before that he was one of the military leaders of the separatists. Agabekyan also sharply criticized the Pashinyan government, calling on Karabakh people to go to rallies and protest against the "treacherous policy" of the new authorities of Armenia.
According to a number of media reports, Pashinyan set the conditions for the dismissal of these individuals, as well as the assistant to the "president" David Babayan.
At the same time, for two months Yerevan has refused to provide financial assistance to Karabakh, demanding that these conditions be met.
Meanwhile, today the leadership of Karabakh issued a refutation of this message, stating that Yerevan"s financial assistance did not stop.
Anyway, there is a further aggravation of relations between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, and in the near future we can expect further deterioration of the situation against the background of growing distrust of the parties to each other. -02D-
