Coup or destabilization brewing in Armenia
Baku/15.04.22/Turan: Armenian opposition and Karabakh separatist leaders are preparing to fight the government of Nikol Pashinyan for its position on reconciliation with Azerbaijan and Turkey. This conclusion can be drawn from the events of the last 24 hours.
At the extraordinary session of April 14 the "Karabakh parliament" adopted a statement which excludes the possibility of giving up the struggle for Karabakh's independence.
"We demand from the Armenian authorities to give up their destructive position and to be guided only by the above-mentioned values," the statement reads.
On the same day, Karabakh separatist leader Araik Harutyunyan held emergency meetings with military commanders and former Karabakh leaders. As a result of these meetings Harutyunyan openly stated that he did not accept the plans of the Armenian government to recognize Karabakh as a part of Azerbaijan.
The Armenian opposition and Karabakh leaders are both united in their determination to thwart Pashinyan's plans to make peace with Azerbaijan and intend to act decisively. Armenia is likely to be shaken and destabilized. An assassination attempt on Pashinyan, a military coup or mass protests followed by repression of the opposition are possible. A military provocation by the Armenian army to prevent the conclusion of a peace treaty cannot be ruled out. -02B-
