Baku's Khatai district court on Tuesday rejected a motion to place 'Meydan TV' reporter Ramin Jerailzadeh (Deco) under house arrest.

Lawyer Nemat Kerimli told Turan that the motion was based on the fact that no investigative actions are being carried out against the reporter.

‘The preventive measure of arrest was chosen without any proof, evidence. At present, no investigative action is being carried out. In that case, there is no reason to keep him in custody,’ the lawyer said.

The defence will appeal.

*On 6 December 2024, 'Meydan TV/ employees Aynur Elgunesh, Aytaj Tapdyg, Hayalya Aghayeva, Aysel Umudova, Natig Javadli and freelance journalist Ramin Deco (Jabrailzadeh), as well as media expert Ulvi Tairov were detained on suspicion of currency smuggling.

A court arrested them on 8 December. The journalists linked the criminal case to their professional activities. Human rights activists recognised them as political prisoners.
