Court of Appeal upholds Bagirzade in custody

The Baku Appeal Court  chaired by Abid Abdinbekov considered the complaint of the theologian Taleh Bagirzade, who had previously been denied to replace detention to house arrest.

Court rejected the appeal  of the theologian and left him in custody, Turan was told by  the lawyer, Cavad Cavadli.

He said that the investigation against Bagirzade  is conducted with gross violations of procedure   norms and the rights of the accused. In addition, the court delays hearing on the complaint of torturing Bagirzade.

The complaint by Bagirzade was kept in Sabunchu court for a month, and then was sent to Narimanov Court. Over that time the injuries of Bagirzade and his tortures disappeared. 

The lawyer announced his intention to file a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights on the illegal arrest of Bagirzade.

* Taleh Bagirzade and Anar Melikov ( the driver theologian) were detained on March 31. They were charged with possession of heroin and weapons. However, the real reason for his arrest is the criticism by Bagirzade of the government.—06C-
