Court prolongs arrest term of journalist Elnara Gasymova
On 10 August, the Khatai district court of Baku satisfied the submission of the investigative body to extend the term of preventive measure in the form of detention in custody against journalist Elnara Gasymova, arrested in the "Abzas Media" case. According to the court's decision, she will remain in custody until 20 September.
This was reported to Turan by her lawyer Bahruz Bayramov.
The defense considers the decision to extend the journalist's pre-trial detention unreasonable and intends to appeal it in the court of appeal.
In court, Gasymova reiterated that she was arrested because of her journalistic work and rejected the charges against her.
Recall that Gasymova was arrested on 15 January on charges of committing acts under Article. 206.3.2 (smuggling by a group of persons by prior conspiracy) of the Criminal Code.
Five more journalists and media workers who managed and co-operated with the online publication "Abzas Media" have been arrested in the same case since November last year.
Human rights activists recognized the defendants in the case as political prisoners, and international organisations called for the release of the arrested.
