Democratic intellectuals and young people on the development of joint steps

A meeting of the leading figures of the Forum of Intellectuals with representatives of Azerbaijani Youth Movement took place on Wednesday in the home of the playwright, Rustam Ibrahimbekov. The meeting was initiated by the Forum of Intellectuals.  The participants of the meeting discussed the current political situation and the development of joint steps on the topical issues.

The historian, Professor Jamil Hasanli, focused on the repressive policy by the authorities which has reached alarming levels of corruption. He called a crying fact the prohibition of the movement opposition politicians and intellectuals in the country.

"A crime of the occupation of Armenian forces is that they do not allow the Azerbaijanis to visit the occupied territories; but it is a double crime by the Azerbaijani authorities to prohibit the movement of own citizens across the country," said renowned scientist mathematician, Professor Rafiq Aliyev.

These reproaches were made in particular due to the hooligan attacks on cars of Isa Gambar, the chairman of Musavat Party and Eldeniz Guliyev, a representative of the EL Movement in Lankaran.

Attention was also drawn to the violation of the principle of the inviolability of private property; the authorities forced the property owners to refuse to provide apartments for the offices of the El Movement.

According to Hasanli, corruption has increased so that it has become a serious threat to the national security of the country, and continues to destroy such institutions as education, health, the economy, and the army. In this respect, particular concern is a non-decreasing number of soldiers' deaths, Hasanli said, noting that in 90 years, when the living standard of people was lower, the numbers of soldiers’ deaths was not so high.

Youth activists noted that the movement against Death of Soldiers will continue despite the arrests of the activists   of youth organizations. "In response to the arrests of several activists of NIDA, 60 new members joined the Movement, and this is the answer to the repression of young people," said an activist of the movement, Turgut Gambar.

The panelists agreed on the need for coordination and cooperation in the struggle for the democratic development of Azerbaijan, and conducting wide-ranging political and economic reforms in the country.

The founder of the EL Movement, Eldar Namazov, proposed to create a webpage "Solidarity", and begin the process of uniting all democratic forces for the ideals of freedom and democracy. This initiative was supported by the youth activists.—0—
