Election Commission does not allow REAL to create agitation group
The "Republican Alternative" Movement (REAL) stated the obstacles to establishing a campaign group on referendum on constitutional changes. According to the board member of REAL Erkin Gadirli, this morning, the CEC members refused to issue notifications. These documents are required to collect 2 million signatures of voters to get the forms to collect 40,000 signatures and registered campaign groups across the country. The CEC offered the representatives of REAL to come in the afternoon, but this time they were told that the notice was sent by the district electoral commissions.
Some elections commissions refused to give notice, and some said they had not yet received.
Notifications are not posted on the CEC website. "We believe that they are specifically wasting time that we do not have time to collect signatures. Statutory deadlines have begun, and we cannot start the work," said Gadirli. The date of signature lists will expire on 22 August.
REAL Movement intends to campaign against the amendments to the Constitution proposed by the President. A referendum is scheduled for September 26. Amendments to the Constitution require the expansion of presidential powers, giving him the right to dissolve the parliament, the appointment of the first vice-president and vice-presidents. In addition, the term of power of president is increased from five to seven years.—06D--
