Elnur Aslanov Urges the U.S. to Bet on Azerbaijan
The head of the Information Policy Department in the Presidential Administration, Elnur Aslanov, urged the United States to carry out an objective policy for the South Caucasus.
"We want the United States to not become hostage to ethnic politics, and to act in accordance with national interests," said Aslanov, speaking on Friday at the conference: "The role of Azerbaijan-US cooperation in the establishment of regional peace and security."
He noted that Azerbaijan needs U.S. assistance in resolving the Karabakh conflict. On the other hand, the U.S. has strong economic and strategic interests in Azerbaijan. However, despite the important geopolitical location of Azerbaijan, the largest U.S. embassy after Baghdad is located in Yerevan.
He also pointed to the discriminatory Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, regarding Azerbaijan. -06D-
