Baku/21.08.23/Turan:  Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan intends to engage in direct discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the revival of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, should the opportunity arise in September.

Erdogan made this revelation during his trip to Budapest while addressing questions from accompanying journalists. He indicated that the upcoming G-20 meeting scheduled for India in September and the United Nations General Assembly session in the US could potentially provide a forum for these discussions with Putin. Erdogan acknowledged the constraints of their busy schedules but expressed readiness to address the "grain deal."

The Turkish President also commented on the recent departure of the first ship from a Ukrainian port following the termination of the "grain deal." He clarified that the vessel that traversed the Istanbul Strait was not a grain carrier but rather a container ship. Erdogan emphasized his goal of securing Russia's positive stance on the grain corridor through telephone conversations with Putin.

Erdogan disclosed that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to visit Russia soon, underscoring the importance of face-to-face discussions to yield more precise outcomes.

Erdogan reiterated Turkey's pursuit of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. He expressed the country's desire for mediation and discussed these matters extensively during Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky's visit to Turkey and interactions at the NATO leaders' summit. Erdogan hopes for favorable results if the leaders endorse Turkey's mediation efforts.

Turning to Hungary's expectations from Ankara, including its role in resolving the Ukrainian crisis, contributing to global peace, addressing regional issues, and ensuring energy security, Erdogan emphasized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's keen interest in these matters. Orban's familiarity with Turkey as an EU member and its position with respect to Turkic republics informs his sensitivity to these concerns.

Hungary's impending presidency of the European Union in the latter part of the next year was also discussed. Erdogan conveyed optimism for enhanced collaboration during this period, but stressed that tangible results depend on the support of member states rather than the presidency itself. He highlighted Hungary's historical closeness to Turkey across various dimensions, particularly its attitude that reflects their strong ties.

Erdogan underscored the positive trajectory of Turkish-Hungarian relations, pointing to growing trade volumes and significant Turkish investments in Hungary, particularly in the construction sector. He anticipates further development in these areas and expressed belief in brighter prospects ahead.
