Garibashvili Calls Exemplary Cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan

Tbilisi / 06.11.15 / Turan-BS PRESS: Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili named Georgian-Azerbaijani relations "the best example of long-term cooperation," the press service of the government said. This statement was made at a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Tbilisi on November 6. The sides discussed joint energy and economic projects.

"We recently met in Baku, and now we meet in Georgia, and I'm glad about this. This is a very good indicator that the relationship between the two countries has deepened, and together we will carry out ongoing projects," Aliyev said in response.

Direct foreign investments of Azerbaijan in Georgia increased 3.7 times over the past three years.

On the first day of the visit on November 5, Aliyev met with President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili. On Friday he held a meeting with the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament David Usupashvili, as well as with ethnic Azerbaijanis in Marneuli (Kvemo Kartli). Today the visit is completed.

It should be noted that the Azerbaijani delegation includes the heads of all the energy departments of the country, indicating the subject of negotiations. According to observers, the focus will be made on the volume of gas supplies to Georgia. Tbilisi, apparently, wants them to improve, but at a discounted price. In case of Baku’s refusal, Georgia intends to purchase additional volumes from Russia, which due to fierce competition in Europe and the world in general is forced to significantly reduce the price of gas. -02D-
