In the presidential election in Iran, the preliminary results of the vote have been announced, according to Associated Press. The leader is a member of the Clergy Moderates, Hassan Rouhani.
According to preliminary reports, he received 1759079 votes - 47.46% (834859). But to win in the first round he must have at least 50%.
In the second place is a representative of the Conservatives, the Mayor of Tehran Mohammadbakier
Golibaf, who gained 18.22% (320,562) of the votes.
In the top three is the acting secretary of the Security Council since 2007, Saeed Jalili - 14.66% (257,822) of the votes.
The former commander of the Revolutionary Guards Mohsen Rezaye received 12.19% (214,368) of the votes, and previously considered a favorite adviser on foreign policy of the Supreme Leader Ali Akbar Velayati gained 6.03% (106,144) of the votes.
An independent candidate, former Oil Minister Seyed Mohammad Karaziya gained 1.44% (25,324) of the votes, according to RIA.
According to Iranian media reports, the turnout was over 60%. In the elections of 2009, this figure reached 85%.
Hassan Rouhani is from Iranian reformist circles; among other things, he is known as a party in the talks on the nuclear program of Iran. On the eve of the elections political analysts speculated that Rouhani, who advocates a normalization of relations with the West and the withdrawal of Iran from isolation, had no chance to win. If in the first round no candidate gets more than 50%, the second round will be held on June 21. Observers believe this scenario is most likely. -0 -
