Lachin was occupied by the Armenians on May 18, 1992 with the support of the former Soviet troops stationed in Armenia. After the capture of Lachin, the Armenians burned the city. Before the war, the population of the entire area was about 50 thousand people.
After the occupation, the Armenians decided to Armenianize Lachin, building churches and changing toponyms.
This is the traditional method of Armenians, which they have been using for hundreds of years and presenting as proof that these are primordially Armenian lands.
The regional center Lachin is located at an altitude of 900 meters above sea level and occupies a strategic position. The roads to Armenia, Upper Karabakh, Low-lying Karabakh. the border with Iran, and to the north, to Kalbajar, pass through Lachin.
The economic and cultural significance of Lachin is great. Its territory is 1,890 sq. km. It is a traditional livestock breeding area with large reserves of drinking water, forests and fauna.
