Military Operation in Northern Syria Could Turn into Turkish-Syrian War
Baku /14.10.19 / Turan: Kurdish units agreed with the Syrian authorities and transfer control over the north of the country to them. In recent hours, the Syrian government army has entered the city of Tabka in the province of Raqqa, which was previously controlled by the Kurds, and moves further north, the Lebanese television station al-Mayadeen reports. There have not yet been official statements from Damascus about this, RIA-Novosti reports.
According to the Syrian state television, Assad"s army reached the Tell Tamr village in the north-west of the Haseke province.
On October 9, Turkish President Erdogan announced the launch of the Source of Peace operation in Northern Syria with the goal of squeezing out troops of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and the Islamic State terrorist group. On the same day, Turkish aircraft attacked Ras al-Ain and other cities.
This was followed by a ground attack. On Saturday, Ankara reported that the Turkish military and the Syrian armed opposition took control of Ras al-Ain, and Anadolu agency spread information about the seizure of Tell Abyad.
On Sunday, Damascus decided to deploy an army on the entire border with Turkey to help the Kurds. Government forces have already begun to move to the north of the country.
Earlier, the Kurds were supported by Washington, but after the start of the Turkish operation, the Americans announced the withdrawal of troops. The Pentagon emphasized that they "did not sign up" to fight with Ankara in order to protect the Kurds. In the PKK, it was perceived as a betrayal. -02D-

On January 15, the Yasamal District Court rejected the motion to change the detention measure for Azer Gasymly, the director of the Institute of Political Management, his lawyer, Agyl Laidj, to Turan. "Azer Gasymly stated during the trial that the charges against him were fabricated and related to his socio-political activities," the lawyer said. An appeal will be filed against the court's decision.
