Negotiations with Azerbaijan deadlocked - Pashinyan
Baku/14.03.23/Turan: Yerevan received a response from Baku to its proposals on the draft peace agreement, which were handed over in mid-February. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during the press conference on March 14.
"We received a response from Azerbaijan 2-3 days ago. Is there any progress? We should note that we see some progress. But the more we move forward, the more fundamental problems are revealed," Pashinyan said.
According to him, Baku is trying to fix "territorial claims" to Armenia in the peace treaty.
Azerbaijan's peace treaty proposals give it "a mandate to conduct ethnic cleansing or genocide in Nagorno-Karabakh. Naturally, this is also a red line for us," Pashinyan said.
Baku is also seeking to ensure that there is no system of guarantees for the implementation of the clauses of the future peace treaty, which is a "red line" for Armenia as well.
Pashinyan stressed that the rights and security of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh are of primary importance to Yerevan. However, the main dialogue should be between Karabakh itself and Baku "using international mechanisms and guarantees". -02D-
