Pashinyan on Demarcation in Gubadli and Zangilan
Baku / 14.12.20 / Turan: On December 13, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held an expanded meeting of the Security Council with the participation of the heads of parliamentary factions, Radio Liberty reported.
Referring to the situation around two villages in Karabakh (Khtsaberd and Khin Tager), he admitted that units of the Armenian Armed Forces and the forces of Karabakh participated in the battles. As a result of the fighting, both villages partially came under the control of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. After the arrival of Russian peacekeepers, the situation stabilized, he said.
Referring to the situation on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, where tensions have also emerged in recent days, Pashinyan spoke about the clarification of the borders in Gubadli and Zangilan. At the time of signing the statement on November 9, most of the regions were occupied by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces and "there was an understanding that it was necessary to clarify the borders in these territories." According to him, when clarifying the borders, "some tension may arise", because there "is a strategically important road for us, passing through this section."
“Yesterday, until midnight, discussions were held in Moscow with the participation of the Minister of Defense. There are several proposals for a way out of the situation, there are options, and in the near future we have to decide on one of them,” the Prime Minister said.
“The process of exchange of prisoners is also very important, and here there is also some progress or a serious opportunity for progress, and today, tomorrow we must make concrete decisions,” he added.
Note that Pashinyan means the Goris-Kafan road, which in Soviet times passed through a number of Azerbaijani villages in the Gubadli region. As for Zangilan, the restoration of Azerbaijan's border brings the Kafan airport and the city itself very close to the state border. Thus, the thoughtless expansion of the territories by the Armenians has led to the fact that strategic objects are now under real threat.
Earlier, the Armenian side has already proposed to make adjustments and "align" the border line, as well as exchange territories. The Azerbaijani side did not respond to these proposals. It should be reminded that at present, the restoration of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan is carried out in accordance with the borders before the outbreak of the conflict in 1988. -02D-
