ReAL to Consider Participation in Presidential Elections
Baku / 05.02.18 / Turan: The Executive Secretary of the ReAL movement, Natig Jafarli, believes that the decision to hold extraordinary presidential elections was made for two reasons.
"One of them is technical. At the current elections, the President is elected for a period of 7 years. If the elections are held in October, then with a difference of one month they will coincide with the parliamentary elections of 2025.
Holding two elections in a row from a technical point of view is very difficult. As for the political reason, it is connected with the March elections in Russia. All the attention of Europe and the US will be directed at this and the elections in Azerbaijan will remain in the shadow," he told Turan.
According to Jafarli, everything will pass in Azerbaijan, according to the usual pattern.
"The process, which is difficult to call elections, will be formal.
Another reason for holding elections ahead of schedule can be a purge within the authorities," the Executive Secretary said.
ReAL soon plans to hold a meeting of its Board, which will discuss the participation of ReAL in the elections.
"Our candidate is Ilgar Mammadov, but his arrest creates big obstacles for participation in the elections. Therefore, the participation of the organization in elections with its candidate on the technical side is very difficult. However, staying out of the election is wrong, because the elections, at least, provide opportunities for meetings, dissemination of ideas, etc.," Jafarli said. -0-
