Red Cross visited Azerbaijani soldiers arrested in Armenia
Baku/19.04.23/Turan: Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross visited two arrested Azerbaijani soldiers in Yerevan today.
They met with them face to face and gave them an opportunity to write letters to their families, which will be handed over via the Red Cross. Ilaha Huseynova, head of the Public Relations Department of the ICRC Baku Office, told Turan News Agency.
In accordance with the ICRC mandate, during visits the organization's representatives assess the treatment of detainees, conditions of their detention and creates an opportunity to restore or maintain contacts with their families.
Under ICRC procedures, observations and recommendations in connection with the visits are communicated only to the detaining party.
* On 10 April two soldiers of the Azerbaijani armed forces went missing in the Shahbuz region of Nakhchivan. The Ministry of Defence reported that they had lost their way in unfavourable weather conditions.
The next day, the Armenian media reported about the detention of one of them in the village of Bnunis, Syunik region. He was a soldier Agshin Babirov.
On April 13, the Armenian media spread footage of another detainee, Huseyn Akhundov, with signs of violence. He was detained near the town of Kafan. Both detainees were subsequently charged with illegal border crossing and carrying weapons.
On 18 April, Akhundov was also charged with murder of man, - a guard from a copper and molybdenum plant. -06B-

Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, who arrived in Baku today, held a press conference at the COP29 climate conference. When asked about the arrested climate activists and opposition figures in Azerbaijan, she stated that Germany advocates for the release of government critics and that she would raise this issue during her meeting with Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister. She specifically mentioned the name of Professor Gubad Ibadoglu, a doctor from Dresden University.

Activist Nijat Ibrahim, who was detained in Baku pre-trial detention center-1, inflicted numerous wounds on himself on November 20 in protest against unjustified criminal prosecution, his wife Parvin Ibrahim told Turan. According to her, on November 21, her husband called her and informed her that the day before he had inflicted incised wounds on himself with a piece of mirror. In particular, he cut his throat and ears.
