Strong public reaction to the arrest of the head of Agastafa for corruption
Baku / 20.12.19 / Turan: Yesterday's arrest of the head of the administration of the Agstafa region, his deputy and former head of Yevlakh for bribery caused a violent reaction in the country. The reason is not that the head of the district was arrested, but the fact that the problem of corruption has been one of the country's most serious problems for many decades.
Economic expert Rovshan Agayev notes that officials in Azerbaijan still do not fill out a declaration of income, although the law provides for this. There is no transparency, there is no mechanism to control the income and expenses of officials, he notes.
The head of the National Council of Democratic Forces, Jamil Hasanli, on his Facebook page notes that the State Security Service said that three officials were arrested for repeated bribery. From the published video it is clear that bribes were extorted in all state structures of the region. The situation is similar in all areas of the country and in the capital.
And most recently, the head of state awarded Nizameddin Guliyev the Order of Shohrat (Gloria).
“The fish stinks at the head” and the arrested officials are small cogs of the state corruption machine, Hasanli notes.
Siyavush Novruzov, deputy head of the ruling party’s ruling party, said that anyone who would be found to be corrupt would be held responsible, regardless of position. So, on December 19, in the Sabirabad region, the son of the chairman of the local branch of the ruling party, Maleyka Agayeva, was arrested for drug possession.
Public activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev believes that the arrests of corrupt officials in the country will continue, because all the heads of the districts got stuck in corruption. -03D-
