The 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijani People's Republic will be celebrated at the state level
Baku / 16.05.17 / Turan: President Ilham Aliyev signed an order to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijani People's Republic (APR)at the state level.
The head of state recommended that the Milli Majlis hold a special meeting on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijani People's Republic.
On May 28, 1918, the Declaration of Independence was adopted. "The newly created APR with honor, on the verge of the latest opportunities, fulfilled its difficult historical mission. The first Parliament, the first Government was created, the borders of the country were defined, a flag, anthem, emblem was created, the Azerbaijani language was declared state, and serious measures were taken in the field of state construction. Territorial integrity, national security were also ensured, military units with high combat readiness were created as soon as possible, state agencies that met national requirements and democratic principles, special attention was paid to the development of education and culture. The first university of Azerbaijan was established ".
The President notes that, as a result of the activities recognized by the international community of the Academy of Sciences, the fact that Azerbaijan was a subject of international law, prevented the erasure of Azerbaijan as a state from the map of the world after the Bolshevik occupation in April 1920.
"Having gained independence in 1991, the modern Azerbaijan Republic demonstrated its devotion to the ancient principles of statehood. Becoming the political and moral successor of the People's Republic, Azerbaijan adopted its tricolor flag and anthem. Since the day when the People's Republic declared its independence, May 28 is solemnly celebrated the Republic Day. -03D04-

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today issued five rulings on applications from Azerbaijan. The case of "Afgan Mammadov v. Azerbaijan" concerned the complainant's exclusion from the Bar Association. Mammadov was expelled based on a complaint filed by a colleague, which he considered unjust. The ECHR ruled that Mammadov's rights had been violated and ordered Azerbaijan to pay him €5,000 in compensation for moral damage and €1,000 to cover legal costs.
