The Court Refused to Release Akif Muradverdiyev on Bail
Baku Sabail District Court today dismissed the petition for the release of the former manager of the President, Akif Muradverdiyev, on bail.
According to the lawyer Fuad Agayev, the court cited a strong case.
According to the CPC, on charges incriminated to Muradverdiyev, the amount of bail for his release from custody is 10,000 manat.
However, the court based its refusal on the grounds that if the man accused of smuggling would be released, he would avoid the responsibility.
At the same time, after the arrest of Muradverdiyev no investigation of the case has ever been carried out, the lawyer said.
Muradverdiyev was arrested at the Baku airport before departure to Moscow on June 20 morning. He went through all the checkpoints and when heading to the plane, he was stopped, seized his hand luggage and invited to one of the rooms of the airport. There they removed from his carry-on luggage 40 gold ducats of Russian imperial coinage.
Muradverdiyev said that the coins in the bag were planted, when they took the bag away.
Muradverdiyev is charged under Article 206.1 (smuggling) and has been arrested for 2 months. -16B06-
