The Russian Foreign Ministry will study the possibility of rejection of a treaty of friendship with Turkey
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova confirmed today that her office received a request of the State Duma deputies with a proposal to terminate The Agreement of Friendship with Turkey signed in 1921. According to her, everything will be done in accordance with established procedure, and a proposal will be studied. The representatives of the Communist Party faction offered on 9 February denounce the treaty, accusing Turkey of "consistently aggressive behavior."
This offer by two Russian deputies caused a surge of optimism in Armenia, which thinks that after the cancellation of the Agreement, Russia will be obliged to take Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan and return it to Armenia. It is not clear on what is based this "optimism" of Armenians. The agreement between Russia and Turkey in 1921 defined the current border between Turkey and Russia, which then included Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia. -02В-
