Fire on the "Guneshli" platform extinguished after 68 days
In the evening on January 10 at about 20:00 the state-owned company SOCAR managed to put out a fire on an offshore platform field "Guneshli". As a result of the fire wells tightness was broken. Using a special technique, burning wells were plugged with a special liquid, SOCAR information. The fire lasted for 68 days due to the fact that burning wells were gas condensate, making it difficult to work and created opportunities for waters pollution and ecological disaster, the report said.
Earlier, the head of SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev said that as soon as the fire is extinguished, repair work on the platform will begin.
" Repair of wells will take 3-4 months. Until the end of May we will try to fully put the well into operation. Daily 1.3 million cubic meters of gas and 1,000 tons of oil is produced from this field. This year, the annual volume of production will decrease by 500-600 tons," said Rovnag Abdullayev.
On December 4, 2015 on the platform №10 of the field "Guneshli" there was a broke the support tube of the underwater gas pipeline running from the high atmospheric pressure in the deep basis, as a result there was a fire. As a result, of 62 oil workers on the platform 30 died at sea while trying to leave the platform. -12B-
