United States threatened Russia with new sanctions
President Barack Obama said that Russia is responsible for the escalation of the crisis in Ukraine. During the briefing, the President noted that the United States does not plan to engage in military action, and "military confrontation with Russia is not considered," reports Reuters.
According to him, the militia in eastern Ukraine is not rebellious locals, but "separatists supported, trained, armed and financed by Russia."
Obama stressed that Ukraine is not a member of NATO, so NATO countries will not join a military conflict with Russia because of the events in Ukraine.
Western countries next week will make a decision to tighten sanctions against Russia in connection with the situation in Ukraine.
Obama recalled that at the beginning of next week he will visit Europe for the next NATO summit to be held in Wales.
In this regard, the American leader confirmed that during this trip, he's going to discuss the ability to use new punitive measures against Russia.
He expressed confidence that the sanctions used by the West against Russia proved to be effective. "The sanctions that we have used are effective. Our intelligence indicates that the Russians know about their effectiveness, despite the fact that it may not be shown on Russian television," said Obama. -02D-
