Activists of NIDA: Authorities should fear of youth movements
The government fears youth activists, and it is not in vain, said in an interview with Obyektiv.TV the board members of the NIDA Youth Movement Aygun Panjalieva and Uzeir Mammadli.
Public protests against the injustices due to persistence of educated young people are becoming stronger and louder than ever people say "No!" to authoritarianism, they believe.
The authorities blame the "classical" opposition parties for inability to retain power, and similarity with Russia and Iran. At the same time, the ruling regime, he ignores the local public opinion and persecutes the youth activists. So, the day before the protest on March 10 the activists if NIDA were arrested: Bakhtiyar Guliyev, Shahin Novruzlu and Mamed Azizov. They were accused of preparing acts of violence, but the investigation accused them of possessing explosives and drugs in their apartments.
On March 14 another activist of NIDA Rashad Hasanov was arrested. On April 1 an activist of NIDA and blogger Zaur Gurbanli was arrested, and taken to the Investigation Department of Serious Crimes of the Prosecutor General Office.
Panjalieva called absurd the charges against her fellow.
Almost all those arrested are people with higher education, they have a different way of life, and are not radical thinking persons. The Movement uses many non-violent methods of struggle, and almost everyone has an arsenal of such actions, she said.
The accusations that the Board of NIDA is funded by the U.S. National Democratic Institute, is also false, said Mammadov. All projects of the Movement require little, costs and are based on enthusiasm.
Both members of the Board are grateful to the authorities for free "advertising" on all channels. After these programs ( which have been lasting since mid-March) the number of the members of the NIDA Organization has increased considerably, and the process of expansion is ongoing, Mammadli said.
