Akram Aylisli: The government will not be able to suppress real intellectuals
The power in Azerbaijan degrades because officials cannot perceive dissent, said the famous writer Akram Aylisli (Naibov), in his interview with Objective TV (obyektiv.tv); this days the writer celebrates his 75th anniversary.
According to him, the authorities continue to attack on intellectuals. Initially, the authorities "squeezed" a radical, and then the rest of the political opposition, and now they try to suppress civil society and the intelligentsia.
"But the history remembers those who is against the authorities' attempts to create a spiritual swamp, and they are mainly scientists, humanists, writers, representatives of other artists," said the writer.
10 years ago, during the reign of Heydar Aliyev, the writer was awarded the country's highest award - the Order "Istiqlal". He has other state awards too, including awards and titles for the former Soviet republics.
"However, I never asked for incentives; they gave and I thanked, is they did not award me –I considered it a natural forgetfulness of power. Psychological essence of power does not change," said Aylisli.
The current leadership does not need people who think. In the 21th century, in the age of modern technology and globalization, the Azerbaijani authorities everywhere breeds idols,
seeks and finds sycophants, and is engaged in verbiage. It leads to mental debilitation of society, says writer.
Aylisli believes that government pressure on the playwright Rustam Ibrahimbekov, professor Rafik Aliyev, and other founders of the Forum of Intellectuals is counterproductive, and will not give the desired result. These intellectuals will not remain silent, said Aylisli. -17D—
