Disclosure of the secret sides of the Ganja events is a matter of time

* * *

-A year passed since the Ganja events. Trials are already underway against those suspected of participating in these events. What became known this year? What was revealed during the trials, and what was left behind the veil?

-A year passed after the events, during this time there was very little information about the details and the essence of what happened, and therefore questions of interest and concern to the public still remain. Information from lawsuits is very controversial. It is absolutely unclear what those who survived after these events and those who died are accused of. The disseminated information is more concerned with the discontent of family members of the accused, against whom lawsuits began in January of this year, than official statements and journalistic research. It seems that the disclosure of the details of what happened after the assassination attempt on July 3 is considered undesirable. Why? This case gives rise to many questions and has many "dark" sides. First, there is still no clarity of the motive for the crime. Initially it was said that the motive of the assault was based on religious grounds or on protest against the cruelty of the official. However, there is no final opinion, or at least the public has not been informed about it. It is known that the person who committed the crime is religious, in Iran he has undergone special military training, but this cannot be the motive for the assassination attempt. 80 people were involved in the investigation of this case. The figure is not small. It is not disclosed what these people planned and what they wanted to achieved. The accused clearly do not accept the charges. How long this secret will not be revealed is difficult to say.

-After injuring the head of the executive power Elmar Veliyev, the head of the executive power of the city of Ganja, Yunis Safarov who attempted to assassinate him was taken to the police station. Then were spread photographs of a bloodied Safarov. Why did not the investigating authorities investigate this fact and did not take measures against those who called for rally?

- Such events take place in the country not for the first time. However, similar events in the country do not occur for the first time, and therefore the society perceives illegal actions almost as law-compliant. In Norway there was not such attitude to Andres Breivik, who killed 77 people and injured 151 people. On the contrary, during the arrest he was reminded of his rights, as happens in all legal states. I do not think that in relation to the one who committed this with Safarov, they will take measures. As for the WhatsApp calls, it is generally quite strange to call for a rally after the assassination, absolutely free movement on the square of a person with a saber, the behavior of law enforcement agencies inappropriate to the situation on the same day, so instead of answering these questions, you can onlyguess. And the assumption is not accurate information. Even if it is close to the truth, in the absence of evidence regarding its disseminating, there can be at least serious complaints. Analyzing what happened, I recalled how the leader of the Republican People's Party called the events in Turkey on July 15, 2016, "a controlled coup." After July 3, what was happening in Ganja seemed to create a feeling of "controllability."

-I would like to see that the events in Ganja be analyzed with cold mind a year later. What was it? What happened at this time in Ganja? Was it a provocation of a foreign state or is it a manifestation of intra-government struggle? That is, could someone do this for some purpose?

- I partially answered this question. I will only add that Ganja has historically been a city that can express its protest. Official arbitrariness not only in Ganja, it was and will be all over the country. However, in Ganja it was not just arbitrariness, there was cruelty, rudeness, and most importantly an insult to human feelings. And this seven-year anger and nerves manifested themselves in an instant. As noted above, the main reason is the insult of the people by the former chief executive, his cruelty. Protests are alone in Cuba, others in Ismayilli and completely different in Ganja. As for the foreign factor, this vision was created from the first days. After the accident at the Mingachevir power plant on the eve of the events in Ganja, the attempt at Ganja was at first glance similar to elements of provocation. However, if these events were connected, the alleged "provocation" would be continued in other places, so I do not see the connection between these events. Religiousness of the assassin, his special activity in the Moscow mosque, his visit to Iran, where he remained for two years - moments of suspicion. It would be possible to regard these events as a warning from Russia and Iran, but there is no particular disagreement between the government of Azerbaijan and the countries mentioned, so this version is unlikely, but not excluded.

- On the evening of July 3, Assistant to the President on socio-political issues, Ali Hasanov, made a statement in connection with the anniversary of the Ganja events of 2018. The essence of the statement is that this event is the work of foreign circles, radical religious groups.Ali Hasanov accused the secular opposition of the country, civil society and the media in support of the assassination and its justification, as well as rendering activities contrary to statehood and national interests. Is Ali Hasanov right? What did he meant in his statement?

- What Ali Hasanov says was dictated not so much by the defense of statehood, but by the interests of the authorities. It would be better if the esteemed A. Hasanov also stressed why foreign circles (if so) chose Ganja. In addition he remembered the interests of these circles. The existence of radical religious groups is known, but why was the head of Ganja chosen as the goal?

The fact that the structures you named supported and justified the attempt, but this does not "contradict statehood and national interests," because people viewed this crime as a reaction, a response to evil, and not only these structures, but everyone thought so, because tyranny official knew the whole country.

If this crime had been committed against another official, another head, the population would never have approved it. It would be better if the attitude was also expressed to the reasons that led to the commission of a crime.

-What do the authorities want to achieve, hiding from the public the true background of this event? What do they gain from it?

- Hiding the true essence of the assassination attempt in Ganja, due to the nature of the control system, is in the interests of the authorities. The causes of the accident at the Mingachevir TPP are rooted in corruption. And with this approach, the "benefit" is temporary, transient, and if the real reasons were named, it would act more efficiently, and the society would witness a serious struggle of the authorities with the reasons giving rise to such events.

- When will the essence, goals, and secret sides of the Ganja events be fully disclosed? Will the public learn the truth?

- Identifying the hidden sides of not only the Ganja events, but also every crime committed in the country is a matter of time. The events of 37 years in the USSR were hidden for about 50 years, then the situation changed, and revealed historical facts.

History has been falsified since the days of the Pharaohs, but it does not last long. Ten or 50 years is a short period in history, and it ends quickly. And then many secrets will be revealed to the public.
