12 Protesters at Fountain Square Sentenced to Administrative Arrest(Updated)
Ten participants in Saturday rally at Fountain Square to demand the dissolution of the Parliament of Azerbaijan were sentenced to administrative arrests of 7 to 10 days.
In particular, 10 days in jail received former "prisoners of conscience" - the chairman of the youth organization of the party "Musavat" Tural Abbasli and his deputy Ahad Mammadli, and chairman of the Surakhani regional organization of PPFA Vagif Halygov.
Youth activist of the party "Musavat" Rufat Hajibeyli was appointed nine days in jail.
For 8 days was arrested the head of the Jalilabad district organization of PPFA Tazahan Miralamli and chairman of the youth committee of PPFA Abulfaz Gurbanli.
7 days of administrative arrest received the activist of PPFA Bahruz Hasanov, head of the youth organization "Free Youth" Ulvi Hasanli, a board member of the youth movement Nida Turgut Gambar, a member of the party "Musavat" Elshad Budagov (was detained not in Fountain Square, but during the invasion of the police and the people in civilian clothes at the headquarters of the party "Musavat").
According to the opposition parties, at Fountain Square and other parts of the city police detained more than 110 people.
PPFA reported detained were 53 activists of the party. In addition to the four arrested (names listed above), another 20 activists of the party were taken by bus to the village of Gobustan and were released there in an uninhabited rocky terrain, said Assistant to PFPA Chairman Faik Amirov. The rest were released after warnings and fines.
Deputy Chairman of "Musavat" Gulaga Aslanli reported about 58 detainees Musavat.
Of these, three were arrested in an administrative order for 7-10 days (names listed above), 22 were fined at 11-22 manats. Another 34 people were warned.
Other detainees were released after recovery from these administrative fines or issuing warnings to the police station.
Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Metropolitan Police did not report data on the number of detained and taken in relation to these measures.
Recall that the reason for demanding the dissolution of parliament was videotaped interview of MP Guler Ahmadova with the Rector of the International University Elshad Abdullayev. They discussed the bribe for the election of a deputy Abdullayev.
