A doctor, at last, examines Amiraslanov
A Doctor from the Baku detention facility, two weeks after urgent appeals were made, examined civil society activist Ilham Amiraslanov, who is under arrest at this institution. The medical examination confirmed the presence of health problems, and the need for treatment.
A resident of the village of Askerbeyli in the Sabirabad region, Ilham Amirasalanov, was arrested on June 8 on trumped-up charges of possession of firearms.
When arrested, he was tortured in Sabirabad by the local police and the Office for Combating Organized Crime of the Interior Ministry.
Amiraslanov still complains of pain and discomfort. It seems that as a result of the beatings he has a broken eardrum, said lawyer Samir Isayev.
The headquarters of civil society "Kura", of which Amiraslanov is a member, will send a letter today to the Chief Medical Office of the Justice Ministry calling on him to give Amiraslanov immediate relief. Amiraslanov will pass the same application to physicians.
On June 25 a coalition of international human rights organizations demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Ilham Amiraslanov, and requested a prompt and thorough investigation of complaints of torture in the police office.—0—
