A new human rights structure has been created
Baku/26.09.23/Turan: A new legal center "Mudafiəçi" ("Defender") was established in Azerbaijan today.
The creators of this structure explain it by the demand for legal aid among citizens, after the institutions of public protection were eliminated in connection with the reactionary amendments made to the legislation on NGOs in 2013-2014 and the abolition of the institute of representation in courts in 2018.
Under the conditions of the "legal crisis" in the country and the severe shortage of legal aid, it was decided to create a human rights center "Müdafiəçi" ("Defender"), says the press release of the organizers of the structure.
The new center is being launched as a result of the cooperation of lawyers specializing in the field of human rights with the Institute of Democratic Initiatives (Chairman, former CEC member Akif Gurbanov) and young lawyers who have been trained as part of other civil initiatives. Cooperation with lawyers is also expected.
The new center intends to provide legal assistance in connection with violations of political and related rights of individuals and organizations. In particular, consulting services are offered, preparation of cases for proceedings in courts, administrative bodies, assistance in representation in local and international judicial instances.
It also provides for conducting research in the field of human rights violations, public campaigns, preparation of proposals for changes in legislation in order to eliminate reactionary norms. ---06B---
