A Tornado Demolished Fences of Two Prisons
A short-paced whirlwind struck two jails (No 8 and No 12) in the Garadagh district of Baku on June 19 at about 18:00. A spokesman of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice told Turan that 110 meters of the main and camouflage fences of both jails, located close to each other, were damaged.
In addition, both jails suffered damage to the asbestos roofs, power lines and the communications. Neither jail personnel nor prisoners were injured.
Representatives of the Emergency Ministry, the Interior Ministry and Azerenergy JSC arrived at the scene and took measures to ensure order and security at both prisons to prevent the possibility of inmate escape. Yesterday, relevant departments began repair efforts.
The situation at both prisons is stable and electricity has been restored. -03B04-
