Abbas Huseyn announced a death threat in prison
Baku/16.05.23/Turan: Abbas Huseyn, an activist of the Muslim Unity Movement serving a prison sentence, declared a threat to his life. On May 16, his audio message appeared on social networks. In a 3-minute recording, he spoke about his plight:

"Every moment I am facing the threat of death. I have no doubt that I will be killed – if not today, then tomorrow, if not tomorrow, then in five days, if not in five days, then in five months. In the last five months, I have been subjected to severe beatings and torture by the prison chiefs where I was," he says.
"I was beaten, handcuffed and knocked to the floor. I was beaten, chained to an iron bed. In order to find an opportunity to file a complaint about these lawlessness in prison in colony number 7, I spent 11 days on hunger strike, refusing even water. With great difficulty, I was able to send my complaints to the right recipients, but indifference was shown to me," he says.
"I appeal to conscientious government officials, honest journalists, politicians, human rights defenders and the Ombudsman," hoping that they will not remain indifferent.
I need your help and support. You know that there is a hostile attitude towards me in places of detention, and if I die or have a heart attack, stroke, or an accident, then the heads of prisons, the heads of the penitentiary service who fulfill the order are to blame for this.
I am not afraid of death, but I do not want this crime to be covered up after my death. I am grateful to those who will not remain indifferent on this issue," Huseyn notes.
Huseynov's mother Rahima Huseynova confirmed that the distributed audio recording belongs to her son. "Yes, it's my son's voice. He managed to transfer this appeal to freedom and spread it on the Internet. My son is being tortured, other prisoners are being set up against him, the bosses themselves beat him," Huseynova said.
She recalled that on May 15 she held a protest rally in front of the presidential administration in order to draw the attention of the country's leadership to the violation of her son's rights.
Huseyn's lawyer Fahraddin Mehdiyev said that earlier, in connection with the activist's complaints of torture, he appealed to the relevant structures, but it did not give any result.
The lawyer also recalled that the day before he filed an appeal against the court's decision to tighten the conditions of Huseynov's detention and transfer him for a period of 1 year to the Gobustan indoor prison.
The press service of the Office of the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan said that they were informed about Huseynov's audio message.
"Of course, like Huseyn's previous appeals, and this appeal will be investigated," the department said.
It was not possible to get comments from the Penitentiary Service and the Prosecutor General's Office. ---03B06---
