Abbas Huseynovs Lawyers File Legal Complaint of His Torturing in Jail
Baku / 11.08.17 / Turan: The lawyers of the activist of Muslim Unity Movement Abbas Huseynov appealed to the Garadagh District Court in connection with the tortures applied against him in the Gobustan prison. Turan IA was informed about this by the lawyer Yalchin Imanov.
The Defense raises the issue of recognizing the violation of Huseynov's rights guaranteed under Article 3 (prohibition of torture) of the European Convention on Human Rights and demands urgent forensic medical examination. The lawyers also insist on the participation of Huseynov himself in the court.
Imanov had earlier asked the General Prosecutor's Office, the Penitentiary Service and the Ombudsman's Office to investigate the torture, but so far no response has been received from them.
On August 8, Imanov visited his client in the Gobustan prison. Huseynov told the lawyer about systematic torture on him after his transfer to the Gobustan prison on July 22.
The Penitentiary Service denied information about the inmate"s torture.
Abbas Huseynov was arrested during a special operation in Nardaran in November 2015. In January 2017 the court sentenced him to 20 years in prison on charges of committing grave crimes - an attempt to change the constitutional order, terrorism, murder, etc. -06B-

In 2017, the Sumgayit City Court ruled to evict the Aliyev family—refugees from Gubadli (Akper, Sarvinaz, Ramil, and two other family members)—from an illegally occupied apartment in the 12th microdistrict, Building 7A, Apartment 35. The court ordered the property be returned to its rightful owner, Samaya Aliyeva. However, the Ministry of Justice intervened, citing a presidential decree from July 1, 2004, which approved a state program for improving the living and working conditions of refugees. Under this directive, refugees without alternative housing cannot be evicted until they are provided with a replacement residence by the Executive Authority.
